I'll cry if I want to...

If you reading this on the day you received it, then it is my birthday. The blog post title is from the song “It’s My Party” by Lesley Gore. I decided this year the best gift to myself (besides the sweater I bought myself) is to take stock of what I accomplished and learned this year. And what a year, it has been!

Accomplishments:

  1. I made the drive to and from Brooklyn to my family’s house in MA several times

  2. I planted my window box in the spring

  3. I taught my daughter how to hem her own jeans (and yet she still asks me to do it, Teenagers!)

  4. I wrote a newsletter article for my business every month

  5. I started doing webinars

  6. I lost 25 Lbs.

  7. I hung artwork on the walls that sat in the corner collecting dust for far too long

  8. I sold clothes and accessories on Poshmark, a resale site

What I learned:

  1. I learned to make sourdough bread

  2. I learned to cook on a glass top stove (the house in MA has one)

  3. I learned that your mind and more importantly your thoughts control you

  4. I learned that eating a more plant-based diet isn’t bad tasting

  5. I learned how to roast a turkey ( I made my first one for this past Thanksgiving)

  6. I learned that an automatic ice maker can freeze over if not used for too long (say 4 weeks)

  7. I learned that some days just go better with Mac n’ Cheese (vegan and GF of course for my stomach’s intolerance of gluten and dairy)

  8. I learned that when the world shuts down, there is always Zoom to keep us connected.

The most important things that I learned are that I am resilient and I accomplished staying the course in this crazy turned upside down pandemic world. I also learned that I am not strong enough to change a tire, which is why it’s not on my accomplished list. Well, this is a pretty awesome birthday present even with not changing the tire (next to the Marcus Samuelson book my mother gave me).
