Best intentions....

I planned on blogging last night's dinner— the recipe and a photo. Well, I burned last night's dinner, so we ended up with take out sushi. My weekly meal plan called for chicken burritos and then Sylvie invited her friend Ella over and she is a vegetarian. I changed the meal to black bean and veggie Quesadillas. I looked up a recipe online. The recipe said to broil them for 10 minutes. Luckily, I only set the timer for 5 minutes. When I went to check on them, they were black on top. This got me thinking that with all the ovens out there —gas vs. electric, separate broiler or one built in— that "broil" was a generic term. The recipe should have said broil on low, broil on 450 or even place in your broiler for X minutes. Simply using the word "broil" makes it near impossible for a person to get the recipe right. If I were to do the recipe again (and I plan to), I now know to broil on low and check after 5 minutes. And the next time I make the recipe I will blog it.
