Life as food

I was watching an episode of the new Queer Eye season with my daughter when Antoni likened the pizza he and the young women “client” were making to her marriage when he suggested that her husband make the dough ahead and she finishes assembling the pizza when she gets home from work for the family dinner. She just completed her residency to become a pediatrician and for the 3 years of her residency, her husband was a stay-at-home dad to their now 3 y.o. daughter. With her new job at a pediatric practice, she will have more time with her daughter. Her husband started their daughter’s life and now she as the mom is taking over act II. See the metaphor?! Antoni’s pizza metaphor got me thinking. What food is a metaphor for my life? Is there just one that is or more than one? My favorite foods are mac n’ cheese, black and white cookies, and cheese (I once referred to cheese as a spice/flavoring). However, none of these resonated with me to answer this question. The one food that did is the EGG. You heard me right, the egg. Eggs are versatile—scrambled, omelets, over easy, poached, and hard-boiled. They can be eaten alone or with add-ins, such as cheese and veggies, and/or add-ons such as bacon and home fries. And I can’t forget the toast. I’ll have rye, please. How are eggs a metaphor for my life? Eggs can be eaten by themselves, hence alone. Eaten with things, hence socializing. And used in other recipes, hence helping another food be its best (and taste its best). Just like eggs, I am all right with alone time (and sometimes need it), happy to be socializing at times, and definitely about helping others to be their best. For a living, I am a time management and productivity coach for parents helping them to live their best lives and be at their best for their work, their families, and themselves. On top of all this, most mornings for breakfast, I eat a fried egg on multigrain seeded bread (and not rye toast) with kale and smoked salmon.
