Sundress, update

The dresses I ordered were all a bust. Before the pandemic hit and I was riding public transit, people made a mistake thinking my unexercised belly was a pregnancy belly. Heck, I took the seat offered if I was tired and wanted it. These dresses definitely made me look pregnant, as in accentuating my belly. Thanks to daily ab work, my stomach is getting more toned. I went back on the hunt for a sundress. I found one I liked but it was out of stock. I signed up to have the retailer notify me when it was back in stock. I continued looking using search terms like “Mexican embroidered dress”, “cotton sleeveless dress” and “women’s Tibet dress.” The last search leads me to a dress I liked, but it was sold out on the site and this retailer didn’t have a “notify me” option. After this, I thew caution to the wind and looked at maternity dresses. Hey, people think I’m pregnant, why not. No luck. Then I remembered Sylvie had said to me not to purchase “fast fashion.” I slowed down to answer the question…What is fast fashion? “Fast fashion is a contemporary term used by fashion retailers for designs that flow from the catwalk quickly to capture current fashion trends. “ from Wikipedia. In fact, there are companies that can take celebrities’ looks on the red carpet or at the latest music festival and reproduce them for sale in under a month. My question also leads me to learn that this type of fashion is often cheaply made in big factories from synthetic materials. The environmental impact is huge. This is one reason to explain why Sylvie loves thrifting online and in stores. She’s right. Recycled clothing is better for the environment and why pay full price when you don’t have to. So it’s off to thrift stores and online sites in the hopes that some gently worn or vintage dress will hit the mark. If my endeavor is anything like my archery skills then I am doomed. At sleep-away camp one summer, I got a bullseye, but not on my target. So wish me luck as I continue my Tolkein-esq quest for a sundress.
