Rythm and Anchor

Sounds like the name of a bar and grill or a band. It is neither. It is the theme of today’s post. I was reading the latest issue of Magnolia Journal, a magazine by Chip and Joanna Gains (famous for their HGTV show, Fixer Upper, and for changing the view of Waco, TX from an FLDS federal raid debacle to a home design destination). The issue is all about rhythm, more specifically the rhythm of life in the Pandemic. So naturally, this got me thinking. My rhythm in these last few months has been cooking dinner and anchored by our dinner table conversations. I meal plan with my daughter, shop early on a Monday morning, and then cook each night. Sometimes my daughter helps with the cooking. I grew up in a home where we sat down to family dinner just about every night, so I know the value of this. I wanted the same for my daughter, so we do the same. I hope when we come out the other end of the pandemic, she will remember fondly the meals and the lively conversations about current events. These conversations have helped me learn more about my daughter and the incredible young woman she is becoming. Plus, she is learning to cook.

(P.S. Since my daughter is now vegetarian, I am learning to cook with new ingredients like Seitan and turn old favorites vegetarian as in meatless Quesadillas made with riced cauliflower.)
