Dear Mr. Webster,

Every night or almost every night, I journal. My night time journaling is composed of 4 things:

  1. Writing three things I am grateful for and I always put myself as number one.

  2. Writing one feeling I want my subconscious brain to work on while I sleep.

  3. Writing a poem.

  4. Doing a brain dump— where I write all the words that pop into my brain on a single page in the hopes that this will clear my mind so I can sleep better.

It is number two I want to focus on. Most of the time I write “calm,” “serenity,” “focus,” or “clarity.” So recently I created a new word to embody two of these — CLARENITY. Definition: having the understanding of yourself to the point where you can let go of emotions/issues in order to achieve ultimate calm. Calm and focus don’t work well together. I tried after this to see if they did. Calm and serenity are pretty equal to me so that just leaves focus. Focus is something I can use right now, as I find myself lacking motivation, not sleeping well (affects focus), and going back to my habit of emotional eating. The scale is showing the last one. I plan to FOCUS on emotional eating to start and work from there for better sleep and motivation. As part of this, I will re-read sections of the book Focusing. In the meantime, I may write Merriam-Webster about my new word and see if I can get it added to the dictionary. If anyone has a contact there, please let me know.
