I am not a fraud

Recently in a webinar (sorry, to say I still attend a few), we were asked to write what we’re most afraid of and post it in the chat. I wrote that I was afraid of being found out as a fraud. Wow!

This seems off for two reasons. One, I have studied time management and productivity for over 30 years. Two, there is no formal coursework or training on these subjects. There are one-off workshops/webinars. But largely you have to learn the subjects on your own. All of the gurus in the field have done just this and then written books created educational coursework and spoken at conferences to earn the title of “guru.” There is no school where you can study these subjects and walk away with a diploma. However, this might be a good idea for millennials and Gen Z.

The fact of the matter I am anything but a fraud. In fact, I am always clear on what I know and don’t know and what I can do and can’t do. I can use my sewing machine to make pillow coverings, make repairs, and do hems. If you want a hand-sewn skirt, you’d be out of luck. Before I had my sewing machine, I sewed a skirt and tank top. I am lucky that it didn’t fall off me at day camp when I wore it.

At some point, I think we all doubt ourselves. The key is to silence that voice with a firm, “No I am not.” No explanation/reason needed. As the paper on my wall (see photo) reminds me to do every day.
