Motivation?

What is motivation?

“Motivation is the desire to act in service of a goal. It's the crucial element in setting and attaining our objectives. Motivation is one of the driving forces behind human behavior. It fuels competition and sparks social connection. Its absence can lead to mental illnesses such as depression. Motivation encompasses the desire to continue striving toward meaning, purpose, and a life worth living.” — Psychology Today

Motivation is important. “It fuels the discipline necessary to achieve goals and progress. Motivation propels people toward short and long-term goals while also helping them cope with difficult situations.” — Elizabeth Perry, Better Up

How do we get motivated?

·      Reassess your short-term goals.

·      Remember why you started in the first place

·      Take motivation from others

·      Habit stack a dislike then like to get it done

·      Reward yourself such as your favorite coffee drink, a mani/pedi, self-care time

·      Take a break — Elizabeth Perry, Better Up

Things that can impede our motivation are fear, societal opinion, internal thinking, our external environment, etc. I find it helpful when I am not motivated to understand why and see if I can’t change it. But lately, this hasn’t worked so well. I have said for a long time that I want to do FB videos for my business, but I haven’t done one. I recently realized that I was concerned about how they would be received and the possibility of negative comments. Even with this self-awareness, I still haven’t done a single video. Now I must dive deeper for more understanding (and hopefully to produce at least one video soon).
