Living past 65...

Recently, my daughter and I were discussing spending money. She feels we are spending too much, and I don’t. In the conversation, we discussed my buying health supplements and vitamins, and exercise equipment. She said, “Why do you take your health so seriously?!” My response, “I want to live well past 65. At the rate you’re going, you’ll be lucky to live that long.” My 20-year-old daughter is not into exercise and feels that she can eat carbs without consequence. So here is the full answer to the question she posed…

1.    I have chronic orthopedic issues that require me to exercise regularly.

2.   I have non-life-threatening chronic medical issues that stay in check when I eat healthy and exercise.

3.    Being perimenopausal means it is harder to lose weight, so a protein shake-a-day helps me to keep my figure.

4.   Vitamins and supplements will hopefully help me to live healthily longer.

5.    Walking and more walking keep me in shape and sane (A good walk in nature does wonders to clear my mind and prevent me from “strangling” my 20-year-old with some attitude).

6.   Working with a fitness trainer ensures that I stay on track to keep my body in good shape.

7.    It makes me feel good to take care of my body, mind, and health.

And lastly, I want to be in as good a shape as my octogenarian mother when I am her age. She swims several times a week, works out twice a week (usually with a fitness trainer) and walks everywhere. She is my role model for living healthy longer. I hope someday I will be a role model to my daughter for the same.
